Growing up as a first generation Vietnamese-American in the US witnessing the constant abuse of power, oppression and police brutality from authority figures displayed towards black people and other racially marginalized people is upsetting and heartbreaking. As we delve into 2020, we are still experiencing a race war we are trying to end. In light of recent events caused by the failure to arrest 4 officers who murdered George Floyd in broad daylight, fueled an indescribable rage. Now, I understand that I will never understand or feel what black people are going through but I will actively stand by them in solidarity. And to those who continue to ignorantly spew “aLL LiVEs mATteR,” no, stop. ALL LIVES DO NOT FUCKING MATTER TILL BLACK LIVES DO. PERIOD. Stay safe and if you choose to go protest, please refer to my friend Lizette Ayala’s post for tips on surveillance policing and remember to not publish photographs of protestors without blacking out their appearance. Refer to Everest Pipkin’s resource to properly blur and scrub your images. Also, below are some links that provide aid to those that are financially able to donate. There is also the Bail Project, where you can donate and support your local city.
